Berimbau by Contemporanea, Small Painted. Approximately 48 inches long painted bow. The painted gourd resonator is tied on to amplify the sound. Includes wooden plectrum and caxixi. The berimbau is made from the wood of the berim tree, bent like a bow with a string running between each end. The gourd is attached to form a sound chamber and a bridge. The player holds the stick in one hand with a metal washer or stone in his fingers and a small shaker and a stick-beater in the other hand. The gourd rests against his stomach , he then hits the wire just above the string bridge. The sound can be changed by touching the wire with the metal washer or stone. Made in Brazil.
