Combination Professional Duduk with Ghamish Reed and 1 Extra Ghamish Reed, Key of A. Professional quality duduk in key of A by Ararat Music. Made of apricot trees from the mountains and highlands of Armenia. It is between 28 and 40 cm in length, depending on key. Normally, it produces only the diatonic notes of a major scale, but with skillful fingering techniques in which holes are partially covered, a chromatic scale can be achieved. With even more skillful control of the mouth, a continuous range of pitch is possible. The reed for the Duduk, known as the Ghamish, Ramish, or Yegheg, is a work of art in itself. It is a very wide (one inch) double reed, 9-14 cm long, made from defect-free cane; a thin flexible wood binding slides along the length of the reed and allows its tuning. The reed is held in a mouthpiece about three inches long. Subtle changes in the shape of the reed caused by pursing the lips while playing allows for a continuous range of tones, similar to a violin.
