Throughout history, versions of the oud instrument have made their mark in various civilizations from Spain to China. Today, the oud is known as ut or ud in Turkey, laouta in Greece, udi in Africa and barbat in Iran. The oud is considered the most important Arab instrument and is called the prince of the instruments.

The Egyptian Flat Back oud has a faux painted body and spruce soundboards, ebony pegs. The asymmetric line adds interest. Includes a traveling black nylon case. The Flat Back oud is lighter and easier for a smaller person to handle due to the reduced depth. The Flat Back Oud has no frets with a floating bridge and measures 28 inches from the nut to the base. The peg box measures 9 inches. It is approximately 14 inches at the widest point and measures 4 inches deep; neck length nut to body is 8 inches. Has bracing inside under soundboard. The soundboard is European spruce (Picea abies) and has three wooden rosette sound holes each accented with b/w/b circular rings. The body is constructed of 21 alternating staves of African padauk (Pterocarpus soyauxii) and African sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum) separated with a thin line of holly. The neck has a core of beechwood which has been overlaid with alternating strips of padauk and sapele veneer to match the body. The peg box is outfitted with 11 olivewood pegs and a bone nut. The fingerboard is unfinished sapele with a border of holly and ebony lines with a scale length of 580mm. Includes soft case and pick. Made in Turkey.
